Bumper Ball was the first ever smartphone app I developed and published to the app store. I drew inspiration from retro classics from the Atari era. I also wanted to create something interesting that made use of the phones internal sensors as a game mechanic. Ultimately, I used the accelerometer inside the phone to control the motion of the ball (player). When I set out to develop Bumper Ball, I envisioned a game that could be easy to pick up and play and to challenge your friends over. Like many retro classics, I also wanted the replay value to be high yet the gameplay to be simple. This encourages players to perfect their skill.
In its first week of publication on the app store, it caught the attention of international gaming companies. Eventually I partnered with one of these companies to scale Bumper Ball and offer digital in-game rewards for impressive player achievements.
